Ruth Turner Wisdom, our precious Sweetmother, went peacefully and faithfully into the perfect love of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in the kind and caring hands of the staff of Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, Ok.During her last hours she was surrounded by her loving family. Never complaining, Sweetmother remained kind and considerate to the very end, exercising her independence and directing others.
She was born on August 20, 1911 in Burneyville, Oklahoma to Edna Ola Puckett Turner and Ulyssis Bismark Turner. She finished the 8th grade at Graham Grade School and graduated as Salutatorian from Fox High School in 1929. Ruth learned early in life to trust God and the value of surrendering her will to His loving and perfect plan.
Lovingly called Sweetmother, she was full of life and had so much enthusiasm. She was filled with the Holy Spirit and loved to share the blessings of Jesus. She did everything in life with true spirit and leaves a cherished legacy of love. Sweetmother devoted her time and energy to providing a loving and enriched environment for her busy and growing family. She was known for remembering everyone’s birthday with a card made just for them that included a one dollar ($1) bill.
Ruth was her husband Raymond’s dearest friend, most-trusted advisor and closest confidant. She supported him in his profession with numerous moves to Shawnee, Houston, Tx. and Memphis, Tn.
Her greatest joy in life was her five children, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, James Turner and T.D. Smith, four of her five children: Joe Ray, Ed, and Reece Wisdom and Mary Herndon, daughter in law: Georgie Wisdom, one grandchild: Stuart Wisdom and two great grandchildren: Stephanie Dawn Wisdom and Ester Joy Wisdom.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Tom Wisdom of Dallas, Texas,
son in law, Jim Herndon of Tulsa, Ok.

and her large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her love for the Lord, led her to be a faithful member actively involved at Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee and Sallisaw, Ok. She was an avid prayer partner, Sunday school teacher, class member and served in WMU.
Sweetmother will be most remembered for her love, love, love and encouraging words “Praise the Lord, Glory Hallelujah”, “This is the day!” , “That’s just the way the Lord works” and “Amen and Amen and Amen!”.
Sweetmother was greatly loved and greatly loved all of us. The family extends our deepest and most sincere thanks to employees of Carrington Village and Sequoyah Memorial Hospital and Hospice, and Dr. Rick Robbins, her friend and personal physician, for their loving care. Loyal friends, including her Carrington neighbors and Immanuel Baptist Church members brightened Sweetmothers days with visits, encouraging words and cards over the years.
Though we will all miss your physical presence, your strong love will remain with us always as you continue to teach us so many things every day. Always and forever your love will remain in each of our hearts. |
