Mrs. Jewel Irene Wear
April 29, 1917 - February 8, 2007

Mrs. Jewel Irene Wear was born in Muldrow, Ok, the daughter of William and Maud (Oliver) Jones.   She grew up on a farm just outside Muldrow, attending the Lone Oak Grade School and graduating from Muldrow High in 1935. She was especially proud of being elected Carnival Queen her senior year.  For a short time she worked at the Wortz Biscuit Company in Ft. Smith.  When World War II started, Irene went to work at the Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, Ca.  Irene attributed her best friend,
Emma Keith, for saving her life at that time when she invited her to come to California,
because shortly after leaving, the Wortz Biscuit Company burned.

Irene was married to Dale Wear on July 6, 1944 in Vallejo, California.  She was a devoted wife and mother, working to help put Dale through college after his honorable discharge from the Navy.  She then became a full-time housewife, devoting herself to her family.  She was an excellent cook and seamstress and loved to play bridge.  Irene and Dale enjoyed traveling and made many friends through their association with the WWII reunions of the USS Edgar G. Chase Destroyer and the USS Batfish located in Muskogee.  It was at one of those reunions being held in Dallas, Tx. That she had the thrill of her life when Elvis Presley reached around his body guard to shake her hand.  Another time, she had her picture taken with Don Ho in Hawaii.
Mrs. Wear passed into the presence of the Lord, Thursday, February 8, 2007 in
