Mrs. Watts was born in Van Buren, Arkansas, the daughter of Raymond Cicero (Ray) Leach and Ruby Emma Fine Leach. She was a 1939 graduate of Sallisaw High School and 1942 graduate of St. Edwards School of Nursing. She was married to Wayne D. Watts on May 5, 1946 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1998. During WWII, she served as an R.N. in the U.S. Army where she received the WWII Victory Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star. Mrs. Watts was a retired R.N. from the Sequoyah County Health Department and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She was the Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Sallisaw Chapter #120. Mrs. Watts passed this life on June 17, 2007 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas after having attained the age of 85 years, 7 months and 24 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing: 3 daughters and 2 sons in law: Susie and Lew Powell of Booneville, Arkansas Shirley and Gary Gunter of Sallisaw, Oklahoma and Mary Watts of Ft. Smith, Arkansas 4 grandchildren: Tabie Richards of Russellville, Arkansas, Alexa Richards of Fayetteville, Arkansas Katie and Emily Gunter of Sallisaw, Oklahoma several other relatives and friends She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne and her parents. |
