Doris Ann Scott Trotter was born at home in Sallisaw, OK to Claud Scott and Okla Wright Scott on August 11, 1937. Born the seventh of nine children she graduated from Sallisaw High School and attended Connors State College majoring in Home Economics. She married Gerald B “Jerry” Trotter on November 12, 1957 and they made their first home in Jacksonville, FL while Gerald served as a seargent in the US Marine Corps. In Quantico, VA she started her banking career and continued for 16 years working at National Bank of Sallisaw when they returned home in 1962. Doris retired in 1974 from banking and partnered full time with her husband in the family farming operation.

Doris and Jerry farmed in the Vian area and Sandtown Bottoms until their retirement in April of 2017. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. Her family came first always. Her passions included gardening and maintaining a meticulous landscape. She canned hundreds of quarts of green beans and froze sweet corn, peaches, strawberries and blackberries to the delight of her children and their families.

Mrs. Trotter moved to Heaven on June 25, 2017 after a brief battle with melanoma. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved in-laws B and Mary D. Trotter as well as siblings Margaret Horn, Charles, Don, Bob, John, and Danny Scott and beloved sister and best friend Betty Sue Smith.

Mrs. Trotter is survived by her husband of 59 years Gerald B “Jerry” Trotter of Vian and by daughters Stephanie Lea Elliott and husband Wyley of Bentonville, AR; Shawna Trotter Watson and husband James William “Bud” Watson Jr. of Medford, OK and the lights of her life granddaughters, Aubrey Ella Elliott, of Bentonville, AR, Aaryn Wyley Whitney and grandson in law Clark Whitney of Siloam Springs, AR and only grandson James William “Will” Watson III of Medford, OK as well as brother Claude “Dink” Scott, Jr. of Vian and brother and sister in-law Kent and Doris Jean Trotter of Vian, OK and a host of nieces and nephews she cared deeply about.

Funeral service is Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10 am at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

 

Viewing is Thursday from 10 am - 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.  The family will greet from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Vian Community Foundation.
