Glenda Darlene Southern, 63, of Roland passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, following a lengthy illness with lung disease. She was born November 1, 1952 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Reva and Raymond Redden and is the youngest of 4 children. Darlene grew up in Roland and, after high school, became a hair stylist, eventually opening her own shop. She enjoyed church and local activities and was an avid cook (the Cooking Channel was her favorite station). She and Roy loved to travel and were with Shawntel Smith at the Miss America Pageant when Shawntel won her title. Darlene was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Smith. She was active with the church until her illness became too severe. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by:

Husband of 45 years, Roy Southern

son, Lance Kyle Southern of Roland, OK

3 grandsons, Remy Denney, Asher Southern and Barrytt Southern

mother, Reva Redden of Roland, OK

2 brothers, Gene Redden and wife, Helen of Muldrow, OK and Dean Redden of Roland, OK

numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Redden; 1 brother, David Redden;  and her grandparents, Harv and Pearl Redden and Clifford and Bessie Prewett.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Burial will be at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Muldrow.
