Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Simons was born April 16, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Leslie Franklin Simons and Delsie Faye (Noe) Simons. He married Mary (Howe) Simons on May 25, 1963 in Lexington Park, Maryland. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2002. Mr. Simons was of the Baptist faith and retired from the Navy. Bob attended schools in Collinsville, Illinois. He enlisted in the Navy in July 1948. He was in the Navy through the Korean War and the Vietnam War where he was wounded. Bob received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart and 17 other medals. Mr. Simons moved to Blackgum in 1968. Bob along with 2 other men started the Blackgum Volunteer Fire Department. He established the Webbers Falls and Muldrow VFW. He served as commander for 10 years and district commander for 2 years. He was the former president of the Vian Wolverines Booster Club and a past member of the Vian Lions Club. He was a lifetime membre of the DAV.

2 sons and daughters in law: Bob and Hope Simons of Van Buren, Ar. Donald and Luci Simons of Box community, Ok.
1 daughter: Laura May Simons of Beebe, Ar.
1 step son: Merlin Plew of Blackgum, Ok.
1 sister: Maxine Whitehouse of Lauderhill, Fl.
5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leslie and Delsie Simons, his wife: Mary Simons, and a daughter in law: Gladys Plew | |
