Elmar Poindexter, 70 of Sallisaw, Oklahoma passed away November 19, 2015 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He was born March 9, 1945 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, the son of Ethel Honeycutt Poindexter and Clinton Poindexter. He married Katherine Lavern Soper on February 19, 1964 in Stilwell, Oklahoma. Mr. Poindexter was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. Survivors are: wife: Katie of the home 1 daughter and son in law: Caroline and Timothy Ainsworth of Hot Springs, AR 2 sons and 1 daughter in law: Lloyd Gene Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK and Carl and Phyllis Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK 5 grandchildren: Misti, John, Shania, Tora and Taylor 5 great grandchildren: Johnie, Lanie, Richard, Zo-e and Phillip 2 sisters: Evelyn Sanders of Broken Arrow, OK and Effie Lois Rankin of Moore, OK 2 brothers: Billy Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK and Bobby Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK several other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister: Carolyn Flute and 2 brothers: Ben Watie and Paulie Wayne Poindexter Funeral services will be held 10:00 am on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw. Burial will follow at Marble City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Troy Parker, Willy Strickland, John Hennessey, William Crawford, Jr., Edward Poindexter and Bobby Ray Poindexter. Honorary pallbearers will be Coy Wright and Matt Brown Viewing will be 10 am - 8 pm Saturday and 2 - 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
