Mrs. Irene Burge Phillips was born February 13, 1912 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bert Burge and Bessie Miller Burge. She married Earl David Phillips on December 15, 1934 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1985 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Phillips was a retired grade school and Special Education Teacher after 42 years of service. She taught at Prices Chapel, Prairie Valley and most of her career at Sallisaw Schools as a Elementary Social Studies Teacher. She was the first Special Education Teacher in Sequoyah County and the Sallisaw School System. She was a longtime member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and Sunday School Teacher for the Senior Women's Lora Wagner Class.
Mrs. Phillips passed this life on June 25, 2007 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma after having attained the age of 95 years, 4 months and 12 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing:

and Dwight and Debbie Phillips of Sallisaw, Ok.;
1 son in law: Joel Sims of Bedford, Tx.;
9 grandchildren: Seree and husband Brandt Eldridge, Tamara and husband Mike Carew,
David and wife Cristy Sims, Joey and wife Tammy Sims, Lainie and husband Ray Whitmire,
Jamie and husband Tommy Keepes, Zac Phillips, Whitney and husband Chris Sharp,
and Timothy Phillips;
10 great grandchildren: Eric and wife Kelly Eldridge,
Emily and husband Marc Bedford, Ryan Eldridge, Nathan Carew,
Megan and Maddie Sims, Trey and Brady Sims,
Lauren Kleck and Kori Jo Keepes;
3 sisters: Mary Epple, Oweta Starkey, and Peggy Blackard all of Muskogee, Ok.;
several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends;
She was preceded in death by her parents: Bert and Bessie Burge; her husband: Earl David Phillips; 4 sisters: Edna, Agnes, Iber and Billie; and 1 brother: Gene Burge; |
