Obituary
Barbara Ann Bradford Mayo was born March 22, 1929, in Morgantown, W.Va, to Robert D. and Minnie Irene Means Bradford. She died June 17, 2013, at her home in Sallisaw.
She graduated from McAlester High School in 1947 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1951 with a bachelor of science degree. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Gamma Alpha Chi.
After graduating from OU, she worked for Neiman Marcus in Dallas and The McAlester News Capital. In 1953 she married Richard W. Mayo, Jr. They lived in Sallisaw, Clarksville, Ark., and then returned to Sallisaw in 1961. They had two daughters and one son. They divorced in 1973.
She was an advertising sales representative for the Sequoyah County Times for more than 20 years.
She was a charter member of the Sallisaw City Library Board and represented it as a board member of the Eastern Oklahoma District Library. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Book Club and a former member of the Onawa Study Club and Friday Forum. She was also a member of the John Corbly Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include two daughters, Allyn Wilson and Charlie of Gore, and Shannon Bishop and Dennis of the home; one son, Richard W. Mayo III and Melanie of Sallisaw; four grandchildren, Matthew Todd McBroom and Stephanie of Broken Arrow, Sean Robert McBroom of Oklahoma City, Ryan Richard Mayo of Sallisaw, and Leslie Michelle Mayo Loch and Josh of Cheswick, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Lantz McBroom, Joseph Todd McBroom, Jayce Adallyn McBroom, Tanner Ryan Mayo and Joshua Wheeler Loch. Also brother-in-law, Jim Mayo and Becky of Sallisaw and sister-in-law Andrea Mayo Quigley and John of Beaumont, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. | |
