Lillian Vermell Howard, of Roland, OK was born July 5, 1921 in Pope County, Arkansas, north of the town of Atkins. She was married to Rev. Raymond Howard on August 20, 1938 in Ratcliff, Arkansas. Mrs. Howard died September 10, 2008 in Ft. Smith, Ark., after having attained the age 87 years, 2 months and 5 days. She is survived by a son, Charles A. Howard and his wife, Mary Kay of Roland, Ok. 2 grandsons: Ronnie Howard and his wife, Krista of Roland, Ok. Jeff Howard and his wife, Lee Ann of Van Buren, Ar. 1 granddaughter: Lisa Shepard and her husband, Rodney of Roland, Ok. 6 great granddaughters: Tara, Kylie, Hayley, Hannah, and Hattie Howard and Aleah Shepard 3 great grandsons: Stetson, Cody and Colton Howard 1 great great granddaughter: Anistyn Ross 1 sister: Jewel Goodnight of Bonanza, Ark. 2 brothers: Lawrence Wright of Huntington Beach, Ca. and Berlin Wright of Salinas, Ca. several other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: Rev. Raymond Howard, 2 daughters: Marilyn Joan and Linda Joyce Howard and 1 son: Ralph Wayne Howard
Vermell, the name we all knew her by all of these years, was devoted to the Lord's work helping her husband during the 48 years of his ministry. He was pastor of four churches: Fort Coffee Missionary Baptist Church in rural Spiro, Ok., Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in rural Greenwood, Ar., Zion Missionary Baptist Church in rural Van Buren, Ar. and Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland, Ok. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and, a pastor's wife and friend to her husband's congregation as well as to the people of the community. She leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to the Lord's work. She will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched.
