Doug Hodge, Jr., age 64, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, died April 23, 2016, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Doug was born October 24, 1951, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, to Grace Philpot and Harmon Douglas Hodge, Sr. As a lifelong resident of Sequoyah County, Doug attended school at Sallisaw and Central. He enjoyed boating and camping at Tenkiller Lake and spending time with his grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his wife, Vickey Hodge; a daughter, Tara McCain; two sons, Matthew Hodge and Dr. Jason Rider; four grandchildren, Taylor McCain, Shadow McCain, Coasten Hodge and Michael Rider; his mother, Grace Perryman; four sisters, Beth Kibbe, Rose Collins, Joan Hodge and Tamre Newton; five brothers, Raymond Lee Hodge, Robert Hodge, Creighton Hodge, William Hodge and Dwight Perryman. Doug is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Bryon "Punkin" Perryman and Richard Lane Perryman.

In 1968, at the age of 17, Doug began working for the Ales Ambulance Service assisting the many residents of Sequoyah County in their time of need. After devoting many years to the ambulance service, Doug joined the Sallisaw Police Department in 1988, as a patrolman. During his time on the police force, he earned the rank of Sergeant and was honored in 1993, as Oklahoma’s Police Officer of the Year. For the past several years, he was employed by Graphic Packaging International in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Funeral Services are Thursday, April 28, 2016, 2:00 pm, at the Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Services will be officiated by Pastor Vernon R. Smith of the Akins Baptist Church, Pastor Bryan Duke of the Apostolic Faith Church and Rev. Roy Kibbe of God’s House of Promise.

Pallbearers are B.J. McLemore, Dennis Fields, Dennis Neff, Sandy Girdner, John Owens and Ronnie Davis.

Visitation is Wednesday, April 27, 2016, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, at the Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home. A dinner in Doug’s honor for family and friends will be Thursday, April 28, 2016, noon, at the Apostolic Faith Church, 101 N. Washington St., Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Interment will take place at Sallisaw City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home, 123 S. Wheeler St., Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

Doug always had a friendly smile and joyful laugh for those around.
