Mr. Alton Gean, Jr. September 12, 1925 - January 6, 2007 |
Mr. David Alton Gean, Jr. was born September 12, 1925 in West Point, Mississippi, the only child of David Alton Gean, Sr. and Ferrell Juanita Ellis Gean. He was a graduate of Sallisaw High School and was the first chair coronet player. He received many honors in band and attended his first year of college at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, Ms. where he played in the University band. Alton enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and graduated from Luke Field at Glendale, Az. in 1945 as a 2nd lieutenant and was a P51 Mustang Fighter pilot. After WWII, he enrolled at the University of Arkansas and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. He married Nell Smith on December 19, 1948. They were married and close companions to each other for 58 years. Alton owned and operated Otasco from 1949 until the present. He kept the store open where many friends would come and visit during the day. Alton attended his 60th year reunion at Luke Field in Glendale, Az. in 2005. He was a member of the American Legion, past president of the Lions Club and was a promoter of many civic organizations. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and an avid dedicated golfer. Mr. Gean passed this life on January 6, 2007 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
