Obituary

Lola Marie Kidd Eastep, formerly of Muldrow and Sallisaw, and a resident of  Sequoyah East Nursing Center in Roland, OK, passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her dearly on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the age of 84 in Roland, OK.

Lola was born on January 10, 1929 at home in Arkoma, Ok to Robert Lee Kidd and Lois (Robertson) Kidd.  On February 22, 1929, Lola’s birth mother passed away.  Lola was only 43 days old.  From that day forward, Lola was raised by her grandparents, James Young Kidd and Malinda (Taylor) Kidd.

Lola attended Paw Paw and Roland Schools.  Upon completing the sixth grade and at the young age of thirteen, Lola was taken out of school to help take care of her aging grandparents.

Ten days before Lola’s sixteenth birthday, she married Walter “Bud” Eastep on December 30, 1944 in Van Buren, AR.  They were married 52 ˝ years before his death on June 16, 1997 after his long courageous battle with cancer.

Lola was a Christian.  She worked many years for OK Foods in Ft. Smith, AR before going to work for Gerber Products Company in Ft. Smith.  There she worked for 18 ˝ years and retired on April 1, 1992.

Lola was a yellow-dog Democrat who loved politics.  She was a member of the Sequoyah County Democrat Women and was named Sequoyah Democrat Women of the year in 1995 and was named the Oklahoma Democrat Women of the year in 1996.  She received the Don Mentzer Yellow-Dog Democrat Award in 2004.  During her lifetime Lola was recipient of several other awards.  During election season Lola would be out campaigning for her favorite local, state and national candidates.

Lola was a lifetime member of the Muldrow VFW Auxiliary Post 8384 where she held many officer positions including President.  Throughout the years, Lola participated in many VFW fundraiser breakfasts.  She loved helping others.  Lola was also a member of AARP.

In her later years, Lola would rather be outdoors working in the yard or garden.  She loved working in her flowers and growing and sharing her vegetables with family and friends.

Survivors are:

2 daughters and 1 son in law: Lois Faye Owens and Rosemary and Pat Allen Cherry, all of Muldrow, OK

 

7 grandchildren: Toka Nelson and her husband Chris of Sallisaw, OK, John David Owens and his wife Andrea, Shawna Corrigan and Allen Ray Cherry, all of Muldrow, OK, Jimmy Eastep, Jr. and his wife Misty, Yvonne Couch and her husband T J, of Fayetteville, AR, and Stephanie Swain and husband Henry of Ventura, CA

 

13 great grandchildren: Tayler and Trevan Taliaferro, Creed and Chloe Nelson all of Sallisaw, OK, Tristan Owens and Abigail Corrigan of Muldrow, OK, Lawton Eastep, Cody and Hannah and Julian Couch all of Fayetteville, AR, and Joshua, Jayden and Kayla Swain of Ventura, CA

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husband, Bud; son, Jimmy Ray Eastep, Sr.; half-brothers, RV and Dave James Kidd; half-sister, Lorene Kidd Belt; step-mother, Elva Kidd; step-brother, Earl Kidd and son-in-law, Willard Owens
