Richard Lee Dixon, 85, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born December 11, 1930 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He attended grades 1 - 12 in Sallisaw and graduated in 1948 after which he attended Conners in Warner, Oklahoma for one year and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma for one year. Richard spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He resumed his college studies at Northeastern where he attained a BA degree in Industrial Education with a major of Drafting.

The next six years were spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was employed as a Draftsman by DX-Sunray/Mid Continent Pipe Line. Richard and his family moved to Modesto, California in 1962 where he was employed by Stanislaus County Schools for four years and Modesto City Schools for 24 years in the Industrial Education Department. During that time he attended San Francisco State College and received a Masters Degree. Richard and his family returned to Oklahoma in 1990.

While in California, he became interested in portrait art when he attended a county fair where he observed a portrait artist working with pastels. Richard worked with pastels for a short time and then decided to venture into oil portraiture. He had no formal art teachers but decided his drafting experiences offered enough background to proceed. His subjects have been business persons and friends whom he presented with their portrait at no charge.
