J.T. Cherry, 94, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Sallisaw. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 14, 1922 in Paw Paw community, Oklahoma the son of William "Oce" and Nettie (Scott) Cherry. He married Hermena Louise Spencer on April 26, 1947 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. J.T. was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, retired from the Department of Human Services as the Food Stamp Program Supervisor and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw.

Survivors are:

Wife: Hermena of the home

daughter: Lynn Denton of Roland, OK and her children: Brian Hail and wife Toni of Tahlequah, OK and their daugher, Braelyn; and sons, Justin and Colton Douillard; Casey and Shane Armer of Roland, OK and their children, Colby Whitfield and Aiden Armer

son: Jim Cherry and wife Susie of Sallisaw and their children: Terrence and Amanda Cherry and their children: Colten, Dakota, and Mariah Cherry and Kyler Cathey; Alissa Cherry and her children, Tristan, Trey, Angel and Chuck Philpot; Ashley Campbell and her children, Claira and Jasper Campbell.

son: Randy Cherry of Sallisaw and his son, Brent and April Cherry of Ft. Smith and their children, Thomas and Isaac Cherry.

1 sister: Mildred Haskins of Miami, Ok, formerly of Roland, OK

a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Orville "Doc", Fritz, and W.O. Cherry, Jr.; and 5 sisters, Eula Payne, Evelyn Green, Alta Beaty, Norma Jo Efurd, and Bernice Thompson.

Funeral service is Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 10 am at Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial is at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Visitation is Friday 10 am - 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Active Pallbearers are Brian Hail, Terrence Cherry, Trey Philpot, Tristan Philpot, Colby Whitfield and Shane Armer

Honorary Pallbearers are Maverick Sunday School Class at Eastside Baptist Church

He was one of the kindest, loving men and we were blessed to have him. We will always remember his sweet smile and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all of his loved ones.
