Obituary
Louie Cheek was born to Edna Louise Burton in Seven Oaks, Indian Territory, on November 6, 1907 to Rufus Caleb and Emma "Emily" (Allen) Burton. The family later moved to Sallisaw where she attended and graduated from Sallisaw High School. Mrs. Cheek and her previous husband, Dollen Reed had four children: Bob Reed of Oklahoma City, Don Reed of Oklahoma City, Charles Reed of Austin, TX and Peggy Reed Whitener of Sallisaw, OK who preceded her in death. She later married Ben Cheek with whom she had three children: Burton Cheek, Addie Griffin and Dr. Ben Cheek, all of Sallisaw. The family also includes 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren. She was baptized in the creek at Sloan Chapel in 1916 by Brother Brown and joined the First Baptist Church of Sallisaw in 1947 where she has been a member for 66 years. Louie was many things to many people. Her love for her family and friends and her enthusiasm for life encouraged all of us. Everyone loved to hear her stories about her life. She worked her whole life in Sallisaw for M&O Department Store, Hawkins Department Store, Jiffy Mart, and the Cookson Hills Foster Grandparent Program until she retired at the age of 84. She was best friends to her children and a wonderful loving mother. Her greatest joy was having her children all at home during Christmas time. Louie enjoyed quilting, bowling and cooking.
She is survived by six of her children:
Bob Reed and wife Melodies of Oklahoma City, Don Reed of Oklahoma City, Charles Reed of Austin, TX, Addie Griffin of Sallisaw, OK, Burton Cheek and wife Emogene of Sallisaw, Ok and Dr. Ben Cheek of Sallisaw, OK
