Obituary
 


J.W. Calhoun was born December 14, 1929 in Pines Valley, Ok, the son of Evert and Manervia (Jackson) Calhoun.  He was a graduate of Sallisaw High School and proudly served in the US Army Air Corps, where he was stationed in Galena, Alaska Territory as an air traffic controller.  He worked the remainder of his life as a drywall contractor where he was a member of carpenters’ unions.  His work took him and his family to Texas, Illinois, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska, before finally returning home to Oklahoma.  He passed away surrounded by his loved ones on January 2, 2011 in Fort Smith, AR.

 

Jay is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mozelle (Choate) Calhoun;

children, Donna and Scott Rhodes, Craig and Sheryl Calhoun, Susan and Casey Morrison, Phillip Jay and Sonnet Calhoun,
Lance and Brandi Calhoun;

18  grandchildren, Jay Heath Calhoun, Jarrod Calhoun,
Jeston Griffith, Michael Calhoun, Jeffrey Calhoun, Annie Barlow, Kelli Collins, Chadasty Brunk, Ashley Beller, Heather Weems,
Chris Rogers,  Jay Warren Calhoun II, Hunter Jay Calhoun,
Ian Calhoun, Aleks Fleener, Sydne Fleener, Eli Fleener,
and Erin Fleener;

9 great grandchildren Drake Collins, David Barlow, Lexxi Smith, Gabriel Brunk, Joshua Brunk,  Maddie Calhoun, Chloe Griffith, Chase Beller,  and Adysen Beller;

siblings, Evert (“Sonny”) Calhoun Jr., Eula Choate,
Wilma Newman, and Ralph Calhoun.

 

 He was preceded in death by his parents,
and by siblings Joe Calhoun, Dorothy Scott,
Thorval (“Red”) Calhoun and Hobert Calhoun.

 

He will be remembered by countless relatives
and special friends, whom he regarded as family.
