Dr. Sheldon L. Buxton was born February 21, 1950 in Fairview, Missouri the son of Harlan and Helen Buxton. He married Dr. Patricia L. "Patti" Buxton on November 20, 1999 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. God blessed their marriage with a son, Zane Marshall Buxton.

Dr. Buxton was Valedictorian of his senior class at East Newton High School. He continued to pursue his education, earning a Masters, Education Specialist and Doctor of Education in School Administration from the University of Arkansas. Sheldon served as a classroom teacher, building principal and public school superintendent before beginning his career in higher education.

Dr. Buxton taught graduate courses in School Administration for many years at the University of Central Oklahoma. This is where he met his wife Patti. Together they trained many public school principals and superintendents who currently serve in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. Additionally, Dr. Buxton served as Dean of Education at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Sheldon was a cowboy. As a young man he roped calves and won more money competing in weekend rodeos than he did in his service in public education. Later he showed cutting horses and won the Reserve World Champion in 1984. He and Patti raised both quarter horses and registered Texas longhorn cattle. He won the world title in Tip-to-Tip Horn measurement and in Total Horn measurement in 2005 at the World Show in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Sheldon was proficient at many crafts. He was a licensed auctioneer, an accomplished welder, and a tremendous storyteller. Many of his students say they still remember all the stories he told during his teaching career.

Most important of all to Sheldon was his relationship with Jesus Christ. He was saved at the age of twelve and baptized. He later became an ordained minister. He had a strong call on his life to serve God and a passion in his heart for lost souls. Sheldon loved God and believed in His many promises to us believers. Sheldon painted a sign that hangs in his barn today. The sign summarizes his beliefs. He would want you to always remember it. The sign reads: "If we meet and you forget me you have lost nothing. If you meet Jesus Christ and forget Him; you have lost everything."

Dr. Buxton is survived by his wife, Patti; his son, Zane; his sisters in law and brothers in law, Mike King, Treva and Howard Hamilton, Jenna and Jack Rahm and several nieces and nephews.
