Mary Anna Briggs was born December 16, 1932 to the late John E Dockery and Ruth W. (Falls) Dockery in Vian, Oklahoma. The granddaughter of the late Robert and Lydia (Fields) Dockery and Henry W. and Annie (Reeves) Falls. She attended school at Mt. Zion School.

On December 14, 1951, Mary married L.V. Briggs in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2012. Mary was employed as a domestic worker in Tulsa and Vian along with being a farmer and gardener. Mary loved to cook starting at age five standing on a flour can to fix meals for the field workers on the farm. Mary loved to dance and sing and was a part of Herbert and Ruth Drew singers. Mary was very devoted to her church, giving her life to Lord Jesus at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and moved her membership to First Missionary Baptist Church in Vian. Mary was involved in mission work and helped organize the church meals.

Mary never met a stranger and loved to talk and visit. Mary had a beautiful smile and laughter with everyone.

Mrs Briggs is survived by

2 children: Johnnie Briggs-Taylor and husband James of Eldon, MO and Larry Briggs of Vian, OK;

5 grandchildren: John D. Sanders and Tracey of Lake Worth, TX, and DeJonnette Broussard of Ft. Worth, TX, Bryon Briggs and Stacey of Norman, OK, Ashley Haynes of Ft. Worth, TX, and Kelli Toran of Kileen, TX

12 great grandchildren: Dustyn Tinsdall, Onna Farris, Ashton Farris, Addison Sanders, Demond Thorpe, Alonza Thorpe, Savannah Averitt, D'Sean Briggs, Keneedra Cummings, Klaton Toran, and Brianna and Brooklyn Haynes

sister in law: Ida Rose Dockery of Kansas City, KS

Brother: Lee Vern Dockery of Vian, OK

many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

She was preceded in death by 1 son, Ted Briggs; parents, John E. and Ruth W. (Falls) Dockery; grandparents, Robert and Lydia (Fields) Dockery and Henry W. and Annie (Reeves) Falls; and 1 brother, Wiliam Dockery

Funeral service is Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11 am at First Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Vian, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Viewing will be Thursday 10 am - 8 pm and Friday 10 am - 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw. The family will greet Friday from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Larry Briggs, Byron Briggs, John Sanders, Louis Bland, Jerome Taylor, and Sherman Oliver
