W.A. Smithson was born February 22, 1923 near Braggs, Oklahoma, the son of Willis Asberry Smithson and Maudie Lee McBee Smithson. He married Anna Doris Sumpter Smithson in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mr. Smithson was a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He was the former owner and operator of Smitty's Bait and Tackle. A WWII veteran, he served as an Operating Engineer in the U.S. Army. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM #28 in Muskogee, Ok. and Past Patron and life member of Order of the Eastern Star #96. He passed this life on April 3, 2007 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma after having attained the age of 84 years, 1 month and 11 days.
Survivors are: wife: Doris of the home; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Cheryl and Wendell Mills of Sallisaw, Ok., Pam and Richard Crutchfield of Sallisaw, Ok.; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law: Don and Wanda Smithson of Sallisaw, Ok., Rep. W.A. "Bud" Smithson of Sallisaw, Ok.; 8 grandchildren: Gwen Ray, Greg Smithson, Jana Philpot, Sheila Smith, Cindy Cullum, Todd Smithson, Justin Smithson, and Shawnya Slattery; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 sister and brother-in-law: Wanda Lee and Rev. Mike McConnell of Vian, Ok.; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 1 daughter-in-law: Carol Smithson; 3 sisters: Mary Elizabeth Randle, Mandy Alice Smithson, and Betty Louise Smithson; and 2 brothers: George Washington Smithson and Cecil Glen Smithson;
