Obituary

George Clinton Pruitt, 80, of Coffeyville, KS passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

George was born on April 18, 1931 in Canute, OK to Jim and Grace (Ellis) Pruitt. He grew up in Sallisaw, OK. In 1952 George was drafted into the United States Military actively serving in the Marine Corp until 1954. Upon completing his active duty he served in the Reserves until 1960. George was attending college in Tulsa, OK to complete his Master Barber license when he met Marilyn Stricklan who was attending St. Johns Nursing School. The couple married on December 17, 1955 in Coffeyville, KS. George received his Associates Degree in Business from Oklahoma City University.

The couple made their home in Coffeyville where George opened and operated the Central Barber Shop for over 40 years. When he wasn’t occupied cutting hair he was also a school bus distributor for Thomas School Buses. George was known to be a work-aholic. He restored and showed two old trucks and an old camaro. He enjoyed fishing and watching John Wayne movies. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, a member of the Keystone Lodge 102 A.F & A.M., and also was a member of the local Sportsman Club several years ago.
Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

George is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of the home; son, Mike Pruitt of Coffeyville, Ks; daughters, Lynn and Donna Pruitt both of Oklahoma City, Ok; brothers, Junior Pruitt and wife Winona, Kenneth Pruitt and wife Rosa all of Wichita, Ks, Terry Pruitt and wife Linda of Sallisaw, Ok; sister, Lula Asbill of Sallisaw, Ok; grandchildren, Shawn, Jeremy, Matthew and Abigail and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jessie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Grace; brothers, J.D. and Hooley Pruitt and a sister, Bonnie Rogers.
