Mr. Phil Nowlin
June 26, 1927 - Mar. 4, 2008

Mr. Phillip Edward Nowlin was born June 26, 1927 in Newport, Arkansas,
the son of Robert Edward Nowlin and Ruby Phillips Nowlin.
He married Mary Louise Carrington on May 25, 1950 in Muskogee, Ok.
Mr. Nowlin taught Veterans Agriculture in Tahlequah for 3 years before becoming the
Assistant County Agent of Sequoyah County in November 1953. He became County Agent
in 1957 and retired in February 1984. Mr. Nowlin was a member of the American Legion
Post #27 and the Sallisaw Masonic Lodge #120 in Sallisaw where he held a number of offices.
He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served as the vice president and treasurer a number of times, member for over 20 years and former president of the Lions Club. He was active in Rural Development and piloted and implemented the first solid waste programs in Oklahoma. Phil always fostered relations between cities, counties and towns believing it was always in everybody's best interest when they worked together. He also organized the Sequoyah County Cattlemens Association and instrumental in grant writing for the Certificate of Need
for Sequoyah Memorial Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
Mr. Nowlin passed this life on March 4, 2008 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas after having
attained the age of 80 years, 8 months and 8 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing:
wife of 57 years: Mary of the home;
1 daughter and son in law: Janand Mark Green of Muskogee, Ok.;
2 sons and 1 daughter in law: Dr. Bob and Mary Nowlin of Sallisaw, Ok.,
and Bill Nowlin of Tahlequah, Ok.;
6 grandchildren: Dr. Nicole Mitchell, Robert Edward Nowlin,
Kristin Carr, Phillip Fredrick Green, Natalie Nowlin, and Lindsay Nowlin;
3 great grandchildren: Jordyn Nowlin, Aubrey and Lauryn Mitchell;
several cousins, in laws and other relatives and many friends.
