Mrs. Doris D. Lindsey was born January 1, 1917 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rousseau Dawson Speegle and Olive Irene Shepherd Speegle. She was married to Bill Ernest Lindsey on November 14, 1941 in Alpine, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1992 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Mrs. Lindsey attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from East Central University. She was a homemaker and a retired 2nd grade teacher. Mrs. Lindsey along with her friend and co-worker, Marie Knott were instrumental in implementing the first remedial reading program in Oklahoma. This program was fostered in Duncan, Stillwater and the Norman/Oklahoma City area, although they traveled statewide with their work. Mrs. Lindsey lived in the Duncan area for 47 years where she was former Teacher of the Year and Past President of the Duncan Teachers Association. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and Past President of the U.M.W. She passed this life on October 19, 2008 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma after having attained the age of 91 years, 9 months and 18 days.

1 daughter: Carol Armstrong of Sallisaw, Oklahoma
2 grandchildren: J. Forrest Armstrong and his companion: Maria of Fayetteville, Ark. and Julie Dawn Marvin and her husband: Jay of Shady Point, Oklahoma
