Maxine (Cox) Lewis was born December 15, 1929 in Brent community, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nicholas Edward Cox and Lillian (Dawson) Cox. She was married to Jeff Lewis on June 10, 1949 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2006. Mrs. Lewis passed this life on January 5, 2017 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas at the age of 87.
She leaves to mourn her passing:
2 grandchildren: Hannah Walters of Sallisaw, OK and Sherman McGowan, Jr. of Rowlett, TX
5 great grandchildren: Jerry Lessley, Tianna McGowan, Jessie McGowan, Dawson Walters and Riley Walters
4 sisters: Joan Forbes of Checotah, OK, Vivian Green of Ft. Gibson, OK, Betty Keef of Chickasha, OK and Pansy McFarland of Sallisaw, OK
3 brothers: Sherman Cox of Clarendon, AR, Butch Cox of Sallisaw, OK, and Gary Cox of Sallisaw, OK
1 son in law: Sherman McGowan of Sallisaw, OK
several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Lewis; 1 daughter, Gloria McGowan; her parents, Nicholas and Lillian Cox; and 4 brothers, David, Luther, Cherry and Marion Cox
Graveside service will be Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10 am at Sallisaw City Cemetery.
