Obituary

Joseph “Jody” Harrison Jones, 51, of Muldrow passed away on June 10, 2012, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Born in Lubbock, Texas, on March 22, 1961, but living the past 36 years in the Roland-Muldrow area, Jody was a true family man who throughout his life was loved by many and will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he so wonderfully touched.

Jody was a 1979 graduate of Roland High School, the place where he would meet and fall in love with the girl who would become his loving wife and devoted partner of almost 35 years, Kenda Ruth Barthel.  Among their many accomplishments together were the raising of their two children, Brandon and Brittany, who from the earliest of ages were taught the importance of love and family togetherness.

In addition to being an incredible husband and father, Jody was also an avid drummer, H.O.G. member, a lover of live music, science, and nature, and a Christian.  He was a former Cub Scout leader, Little League coach, Roland Band Booster Club President, and member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  He attended Westark Community College, and at the time of his passing was President/Sales Manager of The Dental Source.

Other than his family, Jody’s greatest passion in life was music.  So much so that on the day of his passing, he received a personal dedication of “Cat Scratch Fever” from Ted Nugent during Nugent’s concert in Fayetteville.

Jody’s hobbies were building and flying model airplanes, landscaping, taking road trips with his wife on his Harley, making his family’s secret fudge recipe, and showcasing his famous smoked barbeque ribs for all his friends and family.  He was also an accomplished builder and woodworker with his final project being a beautiful tree house for his adoring granddaughter, Hailey.

Jody is survived by his wife, Kenda; their two children, Brandon Jones of Barling and Brittany Hodak of New York City; one granddaughter, Hailey Elisabeth Jones, of Barling; his mother, Gina Caudell, of Wynne, Arkansas; a sister, Vicki Lynn Jones, of Horn Lake, Mississippi; his in-laws, Bud and Marilyn Barthel, of Roland; his son-in-law, Jeff Hodak, of New York City; his future daughter-in-law, Dawn Kline, of Plano, Texas; along with dozens of adoring nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his loving father, Harry Jones, of Tupelo, Mississippi.

Services to celebrate Jody’s life will be held Thursday, June 14, 10 A.M. at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma under the direction of Reverend Bobby Boyakin.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Barthel, Alan Bickerton, Justin Edwards, Ryan Goss, Jeff Hodak, and Dave Valentini.  Viewing will be from 1-9 P.M. on Wednesday, June 13, at Agent Funeral Home in Muldrow, Oklahoma, with the family greeting visitors from 5:30-7:30 that evening.

Because Jody aspired to better the lives of those around him, a scholarship fund will be established in his name at Roland High School; thus further adding to his legacy and spirit that will be forever remembered by so many.
