Joyce Bernice (Hutchens) Jackson, 88, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 in Sallisaw. She was born September 9, 1927 in Muldrow, Oklahoma to Charley H. and Nancy Elizabeth (Peters) Hutchens. Her father was Sequoyah County Sheriff during the years of 1937-1940 and 1943-1944. She was very proud of that fact and she was also a proud Democrat.

She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Sallisaw. She owned and operated a successful business, Bernice's Beauty Shop, until her retirement at which time she became a Foster Grandparent at Liberty Elementary School.

She loved her grandchildren, who called her Grannie, and then came the greats whom she loved just as much.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Sue Boze, Jimmie Lou Stites and husband Don; and Nancy Gail Smith and husband Steve, all of Sallisaw; 1 brother, Charley K. Hutchens; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, R.L Jackson; her second husband, Al Turner; her parents; 1 brother, Bill Hutchens; and 3 sisters, Mable Jackson, Pauline Hembroff, and Audrey Rigney

Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2 pm at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Viewing will be Friday from Noon - 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw. The family will greet Friday from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
