 Orbie Estel Hopkins, Jr.
1934-2008

Mr. Orbie Estel Hopkins, Jr. was born November 22, 1934 in Talahina, Oklahoma, the son of Orbie Estel Hopkins, Sr. and Ruth Kathleen (Emmert) Hopkins.  He married Dovie Lorene (Barnes) Hopkins in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Mr. Hopkins passed this life on July 24, 2008 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas after having attained the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 2 days.
Mr. Hopkins  attended  Poteau High School and graduated in 1953, earning a major letter of attainment in lettermen's club, glee club, football, choral club, and boy's state.  He joined the army in 1954, and attended training at Fort Lewis, Washington.  Afterwards, he attended Transportation School at Fort Eustis, Virginia where he became a Transportation Movement Control Specialist.  He was stationed in Alaska before Alaska was granted statehood, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal.  He ended his active duty servive in 1957, going on to serve in the reserves until 1962.  He attended Poteau Community Junior College and graduated in 1960 with an Associate of Arts Degree.  He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, before retiring in 1989.  After retirement, he was employed as a security guard at the Fort Smith Regional Airport.

1 daughter:  Diana Sanders of Sallisaw, Oklahoma

1 son:  Russell Hopkins of Woodville, Texas

3 step sons:  Steven Dale Berry of Houston, Texas
Robert James Woods of Sallisaw, Oklahoma
Jerry Anthony Woods of Roland, Oklahoma

1 step daughter:  Angela Gwen Moore of Ft. Smith, Arkansas

3 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter

1 sister:  Genia Dickerson of Arizona

1 brother:  Pete Hopkins of Sand Springs, Oklahoma

several other relatives and friends

preceded in death by his parents, and 1 great granddaughter:  Ashlee Nicole Smith
