Obituaries

 

 Mr. V.A. "Bill" Honeycutt
September 14, 1929 - November 5, 2006

 Mr. Honeycutt was born on September 14, 1929 in Hector, Arkansas, the son of James Allen Honeycutt and Ila McAlester Honeycutt.  He was married to JoAnn "Jody" Mitchell on May 20, 1953 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.  Mr. Honeycutt was a 1947 graduate of Sallisaw Central High School and received his B.A. and Masters Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Ok.  He did graduate work at Wichita State and Kansas State Universities.  He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  He taught science and math at Derby Jr. High for 6 years and served as Principal for 15 years.  He served 1 year as Administrative Assistant for the Central Office of the Derby School District.  He also served as Principal for Swaney Elementary School for 14 years, retiring in 1991.  Bill was a member of the local, state and national PTA, Teacher and Principal Associations. He served in the Derby Lions Club for 32 years. He was a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor for many years, Sunday School Teacher, elected to Kansas State Teacher Associations Board of Directors, Kansas State Library Book Selection Committee and was Citizen of the Year in 1991. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Ok.   Bill developed a small farm and raised paint ponies for several years and worked as a Court Bailiff for a couple of years.  He kept in touch with several Air Force Friends from the Korean War.  Mr. Honeycutt passed this life on November 5, 2006 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

1 daughter and son in law: Kerry Diane and Brady Bauer of Sallisaw, Oklahoma
1 son and daughter in law: John Alan and Jennifer Honeycutt of Flower Mound, Texas
4 grandchildren: Brad Bauer and his wife, Trish,
Matt Bauer, Danielle Honeycutt and James Honeycutt
1 great grandchild: Garrett
several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Rose, Emma and Verda and
6 brothers: Verlon, Herman, Ardis, Carl, S.I. and James Willard.
