Macye Aileen Herring passed on peacefully, at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, in Sallisaw, OK early in the morning of May 25, 2016. She went to be with her Lord at the early age of 80.

Mayce was born on October 21, 1935 in Number 10 (Howe), Oklahoma to her parents, Oscar and Bertha Tanner. She attended grade school at Tarby, OK and graduated from Poteau High School in 1953. While attending Poteau Junior College, Macye met her loving husband Morris Herring. They were married September 30, 1955. They joyfully celebrated with their many friends and family members their 60th wedding anniversary in September 2015. This celebration was a cherished memory for Macye. She thoroughly enjoyed looking at the many photos of her friends and family that were able to attend this event.

Macye was a gifted seamstress. She was known around Sallisaw as the "Drapery Lady" where she created custom drapes for her many clients in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Macye is survived by her husband Morris Herring of Sallisaw, OK; three children: Cathy Smith of Shawnee, OK; Mike Herring of Sallisaw, OK; Kim Fendley of North Little Rock, Arkansas, (Son-in-law Tom Fendley, who loved Macye’s humor.) She was loved by her grandchildren; Kylie who held her hand constantly the last several months and prayed for her with great faith, Maycee, who always had her in her thoughts and prayers, and Christie, her first born grandchild who spent many wonderful days visiting at her Nanny’s house growing up. Macye is also survived by three great-grandsons, Harold, Samuel, and Reese. Mayce also loved her nephews David and Todd Chester like her own children.

Mayce is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and David Tanner; three sisters, Bernice Peters, LaVerne Smith, and Betty Chester; grand-daughter, Christie Bush; Son-in-Law, Donald Smith.

The family would like to give a "special thanks" to Dr. Rick and Karen Robbins, the SMH Hospice team, Dr. Lawrence Mendelsohn and staff, CARTI of Little Rock, the First Baptist Church of Sallisaw family and her wonderful neighbors and friends, Phyllis Duty, Myrna Jones, Jean Whitaker, Louise Woodward, Joy Vann, Sharon Cox, Rita Rogers and to all those who supported her with their thoughts and prayers.

Viewing will be Thursday Noon - 8 pm and Friday 10 am - 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

The family will greet friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Sallisaw, OK, Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Burial services will follow at the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
