Mary Faith Bittle was born August 15, 1936 in Sloans Chapel community, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Preston Masterson and Glady Fine Masterson. She married Harvey Tom Bittle on September 22, 1977 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Mrs. Bittle attended Sloan's Chapel schhol from age 3. She attended Sallisaw Schools after the country school consolidated with Sallisaw. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Northeastern State Teacher's College in Tahlequah. She taught several years in Sallisaw, Ft. Smith and Michigan schools. She later worked for Cherokee Nation and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. In the late 70's she worked a short time for Garland Coal and Mining Company. The miners were on strike and Mary crossed the picket line to operate a Caterpillar belly dump. She was sent to school to learn the technique of TNT blasting for the coal. She was assigned to that job permanently until the miners returned to work. She owned, with her mother, a picture framing shop. Mrs. Bittle passed this life on October 31, 2011 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas after having attained the age of 75 years, 2 months and 16 days.
