Obituaries

 




Bettye Ruth Aydelott, 82, of Sallisaw passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Sallisaw.  She was born in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to William Harvey Masterson and Mattie Edwards Masterson on September 29, 1933.  She graduated from Lamar High School in Lamar, Arkansas in 1951.  She received her Bachelors of  Music Education in 1955 from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She remained active in the University of the Ozarks alumni association and in 2013 received the Alumni Achievement Award. She retired from Sallisaw Public Schools in 1990 where she had been an elementary music educator at Liberty and Eastside Elementary Schools.  She was selected as Sallisaw Public Schools teacher of the year in 1973 and 1976  and the Sequoyah County Association teacher of the year in 1976.  She also taught private voice and piano students for 59 years. She was a 60-year member of First Baptist Church in Sallisaw where she was the director of children’s choirs for 55 years.  She was an active member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class, a member of the adult sanctuary choir, and the handbell choir. 

 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Harvey and Mattie Masterson; two sisters, Nora Mae Dobson and Ophie Abernathy; and one son-in-law, David Dinsmore. She is survived by her husband, Bill Aydelott of the home; a son, William Robert Aydelott and wife, Tammy of Roland, Oklahoma; two daughters, Dana Dinsmore Davis and husband Joe of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Susan Case and husband, Tom of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jana Aydelott Leeper, Riley Dinsmore, Leah Aydelott Brown, and Mackenzie Case; and two great grandchildren, Penny Leeper and Darby Leeper.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.  Viewing will begin Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The family will be available for visitation on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The celebration of life service will be Wednesday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 122 W. Chickasaw Avenue, Sallisaw.

 

Charitable contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Aydelott to Forever Friends Humane Society, 103766 4650 Road, Sallisaw, OK and the First Baptist Church Sallisaw music ministry.
